Abstract:

Objective To observe the role of the journal club in postgraduate training in severe cerebrovascular disease. Methods The postgraduate students majoring in neuro-critical care medicine in Capital Medical University and Weifang Medical College were enrolled. Using the literature on severe cerebrovascular disease, the literature reading report teaching method and the journal club teaching method were successively used to improve the quality and ability of scientific research. After the teaching process, a questionnaire survey was used to compare the ability of medical postgraduates in learning literature on severe cerebrovascular disease under different teaching methods. Results A total of 14 graduate students were enrolled, including 11 males and 3 females. Compared with the literature reading report teaching method, the following aspects were all significantly improved using the journal club teaching method: the reading volume of literature (10.64±0.40 articles/month vs 4.63±0.39 articles/month, P <0.001), the ability of reading professional English (86.54±4.60 points vs 76.91±4.49 points, P <0.001), literature induction ability (76.43±3.52 points vs 66.43±3.66 points, P <0.001), oral English expression ability (82.04±3.62 points vs 71.21±2.55 points, P <0.001) and the teaching satisfaction (89.77±2.36 points vs 79.19±2.12 points, P <0.001). Conclusions For medical postgraduate training in severe cerebrovascular disease, the journal club teaching method is an effective method to promote the students’ quality and ability of scientific research.
