Abstract: Objective The family members of severe stroke patient had been investigated the needs of socialsupport.Methods The relatives of 63 severe stroke patients had been invited to fill out questionnaires.The survey form includes what they need as for the social supportiveness, their concerns and theirexpectation of social support. The data were analyzed by statistics.Results More than 90% of the respondents thought that their rule of life was seriously affected.More than half of them thought their health were affected by the patients. The proportion of thefamilies had intense requirements of visit was 74%. 98% of the families wanted to know thechanges in the patient's condition in time 67% of them concerned whether the patients was beingkept alive 44% of them expected to improve the social security and to relieve financial burden.Conclusion Medical information support is an important social support for severe stroke patients'families; the mental experience of the families should be concerned.
